Patients confronting medical crises are likely to benefit from treatme
nt using a short-term medical crisis intervention model. This article
describes how to generate focused goals that direct an efficient, help
ful treatment from the perspective of the medical crisis counseling mo
del. Illustrative case material is used to summarize strategies for se
tting goals and time parameters in a time-limited, outpatient format f
or patients confronting chronic illness.
