The binary complex chloroglycyl-D,L-methioninatoplatinum(II) was synth
esised and characterised. Subsequently, mixed ligand complexes of chlo
roglycyl-D,L-methioninatoplatinum(II) and chloroglycyl-D,L-methioninat
opalladium(II) with purines adenine, guanine, hypoxanthine, and nucleo
sides adenosine, guanosine, inosine and cytidine were synthesised and
characterised. Based on spectroscopic data it was found that adenine (
Pt and Pd complexes), hypoxanthine (Pt), adenosine (Pt and Pd) and ino
sine (Pt) form binuclear complexes. Adenine coordinates through N-1 an
d N-7 in Pt complex and through N-1 and N-7 in the Pt complex, whereas
hypoxanthine coordinates through N-3 and N-9 in the Pt complex. The c
orresponding Pd complex is insoluble. Adenosine (Pt and Pd) and inosin
e (Pt) coordinate through N-1 and N-7. Guanine, guanosine and cytidine
form mononuclear complexes, the first two ligands coordinating to the
metal ion through N-7 and the third (cytidine) through N-3.
