B. Rybarczyk et al., VALIDATION OF A DEPRESSION SCREENING MEASURE FOR STROKE INPATIENTS, The American journal of geriatric psychiatry, 4(2), 1996, pp. 131-139
The Stroke Inpatient Depression Inventory (SIDI) was developed and tes
ted on 50 stroke inpatients on a rehabilitation unit. The format and c
ontent of the SIDI questions were intended to improve on the limited v
alidity of the Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression Scale (CE
S-D) and other measures of depression with stroke inpatients. The vali
dity of the SIDI was supported by higher correlations with a psychiatr
ist's rating of depression level (r = 0.70), SADS-C score (r = 0.68),
and Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression score (r = 0.78) compared wit
h the CES-D. Also, the SIDI was more accurate than the CES-D in correc
t classification of patients with regard to diagnosis of depression (8
6% vs. 76% correct).
