Abstract
The authors assessed the safety and efficacy of risperidone in a group of elderly, patients with chronic schizophrenia and behavioral distur bances (N = 10). There were no clinically significant changes on physi cal examination. Also, schizophrenic symptoms and cognitive performanc e improved during risperidone administration. Patients showed a suffic ient improvement in both areas to warrant a larger, double-blind study assessing the effects of risperidone on cognitive and psychiatric sym ptoms in elderly psychotic patients.
