Ma. Redfern et al., CODING TECHNIQUES FOR SECURE DIGITAL-COMMUNICATIONS FOR UNIT PROTECTION OF DISTRIBUTION FEEDERS, IEEE transactions on power delivery, 11(2), 1996, pp. 716-724
The dramatic growth in new designs of microprocessor relays has led to
a growth in the use digital communications for protection. Unfortunat
ely in any communication system there will always be some corruption o
f the received data. Part of the art and science of relay design is th
erefore to take this into account. This paper examines coding techniqu
es designed to minimise the probability of corrupted data being declar
ed as healthy. Message size, coding techniques and interleaving are ex
amined with respect to the choice of a coding strategy for a secure da
ta communication system for unit protection.
