This paper deals with a wind tunnel investigation of the power imparte
d by wind to a circular cylinder vibrating in a sinusoidal mode shape.
The vibrating system has a low damping ratio and the results have sho
wn a hysteresis phenomenon in both oscillation amplitude and power inp
ut. The sheets of the hysteresis has been interpreted with respect to
the different flow patterns in the wake of the oscillating cylinder. T
he results of the specific power as a function of the vibration amplit
ude are in agreement with those of the central group of previous tests
.
