Abstract
High solids firing was recently implemented on the recovery boiler at Intercontinental Pulp as part of a low-odor boiler conversion project. The high solids liquor changes the boiler operation as well as the bo iler liquor delivery and saltcake recovery systems. In designing a boi ler liquor delivery system for handling high solids liquor, particular attention was allocated to liquor temperature control, purging featur es and saltcake recovery Overall, the conversion to high solids firing has been successful. The boiler is now generally easier to operate an d control. However the conversion has promoted mechanical carryover an d a high chloride level in the liquor system. These results may be con tributing to the mill's current boiler plugging problem.
