Abstract
A first attempt was made, on the basis of Pavel's proposal [18], to in tegrate a predictive mechanism into a model of the human smooth pursui t system, The predictive mechanism contained an adaptive filter based on the LMS algorithm, Smooth pursuit simulations were made of a large variety of target movements, The model provides a fairly good qualitat ive and mostly also a fairly good quantitative description of human tr acking of the various stimuli. However, when the model was applied to the tracking of sinusoidal target movements with frequencies higher th an about 1 Hz, it performed even better than the human smooth pursuit system.
