A UV-wavelength laser beam was used to ionize a purified liquid argon
medium in a time projection chamber environment, and for the first tim
e, to our knowledge, ionization signals corresponding to ionization el
ectrons were measured in the particle time projection chamber resultin
g in a laser calibration. Furthermore, the mechanism of the complicate
d ionization process has been postulated.
