ELECTRON-SPECTROSCOPY INTO THE 21ST-CENTURY

Global socioeconomic trends define the external envelope within which electron spectroscopy will develop in the coming decades. The signs ar e very positive that this field will be increasingly in demand as new methodology is developed, leading to advances in both basic science an d applications to technology. Four fields of transcendent scientific o pportunity are identified. All benefit from electron spectroscopy. Two of the many newly developing techniques related to electron spectrosc opy are described briefly.
