States of doubly charged atomic and molecular ions have been studied b
y Threshold PhotoElectrons COincidence (TPEsCO) spectroscopy. This tec
hnique involves the detection, in coincidence, of two zero energy elec
trons ejected in the photodouble ionisation process. The application o
f the TPEsCO technique to rare gases and diatomic molecules is discuss
ed. In addition the first observation of the Ar2+(3s(2+)3p(3) nl) sate
llite states at threshold is reported.
