A. Maiste et al., 3D-RESONANT PHOTOEMISSION AND AUGER EMISSION OF CE IN CEO2, Journal of electron spectroscopy and related phenomena, 76, 1995, pp. 583-587
The Ce 3d-edge resonant photoelectron and Auger electron emission spec
tra in CeO2 have been measured. The 4s-, 4p- and 4d-emission at off-re
sonance excitations consists of two parts separated by about 13 eV, wh
ich correspond to different final-state configurations. The resonantly
excited spectra show the different nature of the M(45). main and sate
llite photoexcitations. The satellites seem to correspond to intermedi
ate states of a more extended character. For M(45)N(45)N(45) on-resona
nce decay the most interesting finding (obtained by comparison with th
e relevant spectra of Ce in CeCl3 and La in LaF3) is the considerable
suppression of the high energy band related to the upper levels of the
4d(8)4f(n) final state configurations. Th M(45)N(45)N(45) decay in Ce
O2 appears to be snore similar to the situation in metallic cerium tha
n in the insulating CeCl3.
