Abstract
Thin multilayer samples of Fe/Ni were investigated by Mossbauer spectr oscopy at room temperature. Iron films up to 17 Angstrom were found in gamma phase; alpha phase showed up at higher coverage. The gamma inte rface is characterized by an enhanced hyperfine field with respect to bulk, while the alpha interface shows a lowered hyperfine field. Inter diffusion was observed after annealing close to 200 degrees C and was interpreted in terms of minimization of strain energy.
