Abstract
The rapid development of efficient batch processes is critical to the
specialty chemicals industry, yet it has received little academic atte
ntion. An industrial batch process development example is presented to
demonstrate both the scope of the problem and the benefits that can b
e achieved from the application of process modeling technology. A prot
otype methodology that utilizes modeling technology to exploit process
ing tradeoffs during the development of batch processes is then introd
uced.
