The description of Phacopsylla Beaucournu and Horak, 1994, has been su
pplemented by various observations involving the cephalic capsule, cox
a III, nervous system (not ventral in males), digestive tract and resp
iratory system. The latter exhibits strange tracheal dilations, akin o
nly to those found in Moeopsylla sjoestedti, the only other oioxenous
flea of the warthog, by the authors. The authors note that the real na
me of the host is Phacochoerus africanus (Gmelin); the biology of this
suid could account for the specificity of these fleas, and possibly f
or the tracheal dilations observed.
