Sn. Sathe et al., EFFECT OF FUNCTIONALIZED POLYPROPYLENE ON THERMAL, MECHANICAL, AND MORPHOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF POLYPROPYLEN NYLON-6 BLENDS/, Journal of macromolecular science. Pure and applied chemistry, A33(4), 1996, pp. 459-476
The compatibilizing effect of polypropylene-graft-butyl acrylate (PP-g
-BA) on the morphological, thermal, and mechanical properties of polyp
ropylene and nylon-6 (Ny-6) blends was investigated. Addition of 2.4%
(w/w) PP-g-BA compatibilizer in binary PP/Ny-6 blends results in more
regular and finer dispersions of the two phases and improved mechanica
l properties. Various mathematical models have been used to explain th
e mechanical properties of these blends. Molau's test and MFI data sup
port the formation of PP-g-Ny-6 due to chemical reaction between the t
erminal amino groups of Ny-6 and the ester groups of PP-g-BA copolymer
.
