Abstract
In this article first of all a comparison of Geographical and Cartogra phical Information Systems with varying data input, goals, and data ha ndling are being discussed. Against this theoretical-conceptual backgr ound, the research project ''Geoinformation Systems and Digital Cartog raphy'' is presented. New ways of cartographic information transfer in future are also described in detail.
