Molecular structure of WO2Br2 has been studied by electron diffractome
try. Structural parameters for the molecule with C-2v symmetry are:r(a
lpha)(W=O) = 1.710(6)Angstrom, r(alpha)(W-Br) = 2.398(5)Angstrom, r(al
pha)(O-O) = 2.815(30) Angstrom, r(alpha)(Br-Br) - 4.021(16)Angstrom, r
(alpha)(O-Br) = 3.347(10)Angstrom. The OWO and BrWBr bond angles are c
lose to tetrahedral: angle(alpha)OWO = 110.8(2.0)degrees, angle(alpha)
BrWBr = 113.9(1.0)degrees. The W=O bond was found to be characteristic
in the series of tungsten dioxyhalides.
