In this paper we treat the problem of tomography of a medium with a hi
gh scattering level. A mathematical approach has been developed for an
investigation of the radiation field. Based on these results a specia
l source-detectors configuration is proposed. This offers a separation
of the intensity of nonscattered and single-scattered radiation from
the intensity of the total flux. The conventional Radon transform proc
edure can be applied to the data processed that way to reconstruct the
extinction coefficient distribution. Then the value of the scattering
coefficient at any given point can be found separately by solving a s
ystem of simple equations. Finally, we present some numerical results
to demonstrate a numerical implementation of the method and the distor
tion of the body image caused by scattering interference.
