Abstract
We have determined the nucleotide sequence of the PetM gene from the s ingle celled alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. The gene encodes a recent ly characterized, small protein of the cytochrome b(6)f complex, and b ased on this sequence, it is proposed that this protein spans the memb rane by a single alpha-helix. Comparison of the nucleotide sequence wi th the deduced amino acid sequence reveals a 60-amino-acid presequence similar to a stroma-targeting peptide.
