K. Kuwano et al., PREPARATION OF STAR-SHAPED POLYMERS FROM MACROMONOMERS AND THEIR PROPERTIES AS PAINTS - APPLICATION TO PAINT RESIN, Kobunshi ronbunshu, 53(3), 1996, pp. 165-168
Star-shaped polymers having nearly the same composition as conventiona
l paints were prepared by radical polymerization of macromonomers with
3-mercaptopropionic acid, and the sulfide linkages in the molecules w
ere converted to sulfone by reaction with hydrogen peroxide. It was fo
und that the star-shaped polymers were stable enough against ultraviol
et radiation for use as paint resin, and the solution viscosity of the
star-shaped polymer was considerably lower that of the corresponding
linear polymer with the same molecular weight.
