Abstract
Characteristics of guided acoustic wave Brillouin scattering in polari zation maintaining fibers are investigated theoretically and experimen tally. Spectra of polarized and depolarized scattering are measured fo r two different types of polarization maintaining fibers: the PANDA (p olarization maintaining and absorption reducing) fibers and the ellipt ical-jacket fibers. Calculated results are in agreement with the exper imental ones in the low frequency region.
