Abstract
A mathematical model of transient heat transfer during heal treating o f steels in vacuum furnaces with high pressure gas quench systems was developed. Using the calculated cooling curves and the relevant TTT di agram, the microstructure and hardness of standard shape steel bodies, such as a plate, cylinder, sphere and parallelopiped, can be predicte d. A comparison of the calculated and measured values shows good agree ment.
