Annealed, selectively C-13-labeled Bisphenol A polycarbonate samples w
ere uniaxially compressed (compressive strain ca. 40%). One-dimensiona
l static NMR spectra of the deformed samples were recorded at differen
t orientations with respect to the magnetic field. The orientational d
istributions of the carbonate groups and the phenylene rings were dete
rmined through a fitting of the spectra by an expansion in Wigner rota
tion matrix elements. The data are explained quantitatively by an affi
ne network-deformation model. The chains qualitatively behave as compr
essed random coils.
