Abstract
A mutant of Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstahi producing a dark-brow n pigment was generated following UV irradiation of the culture. This pigment was characterized as melanin, based on preliminary diagnostic tests, UV, and FTIR spectral analysis. The mutant was more resistant t o UV light than the parent strain and had greater insecticidal activit y toward diamondback moths, Plutella xylostella. (C) 1996 Academic Pre ss, Inc.
