Abstract
Crude, aqueous methanol and ethanol extracts of sawdust of Mansonia (M ansonia altisima) timber inhibited Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enteroco ccus faecalis. The minimum inhibitory concentration ranged from 4.4 to 9.3 mg/ml, while the minimum bactericidal concentration was 10.0-25.0 mg/ml. Enterococcus faecalis was more susceptible, but no marked diff erence occurred in the antibacterial effect of methanol and ethanol ex tracts, The aqueous extract was less active.
