Spectroscopic studies of polyacrylonitrile structural transformations
during its alkali modification were carried out to elucidate the cause
for appearance of anion-exchange groups on a fiber. The mechanisms re
sponsible for appearance of both cation- and anion-exchange groups in
a sorbent obtained by this method are proposed. The existing methods f
or separate determination of static exchange capacities and potentiome
tric titration were analyzed on the basis of the proposed mechanisms.
