New data have been reported od the photochemical activity of optically
transparent electrochromic and conducting polymers obtained from acet
onitrile solutions of bis(salicylidene) ethylenediamine complexes of C
u(II) and Pd(II) upon anodic polarization of a platinum electrode. The
physicochemical properties of these polymers have been compared with
those of polymers of the same composition obtained previously from pro
pylene carbonate solution. The charge on the metal centers of the oxid
ized polymers has been calculated from the chemical shifts of high-ene
rgy x-ray lines. The optical absorption spectra of the oxidized and re
duced polymers have been recorded. The factors affecting the values of
the photoinduced potential Delta E have been. studied.
