The tracer diffusion method is used to observe the anion mobility in C
uBr, well known to show large mobility for the cations. The anion Br-
is found to diffuse with a diffusion coefficient of 1 x 10(-7) cm2/s i
n the bcc alpha-phase, comparable to that of Cu+ in the gamma-phase co
pper halides. This is several order of magnitudes higher than the ioni
c conductivity of ordinary ionic solids and represents the first quant
itative information on the diffusion of the relatively immobile anion
specie.
