This paper deals with mixtures of bi-anisotropic media. The mixtures a
re assumed to consist of a bi-isotropic background medium in which bi-
anisotropic, spherical, electrically small inclusions are embedded. A
general formula is presented with which one is able to calculate the e
ffective material parameters of the heterogeneous medium as functions
of the corresponding parameters of the inclusions and their volume fra
ction. This formula is general in the sense that it gives the Maxwell
Garnett, Bruggeman and coherent potential rules as special cases. Nume
rical results are given for chiral and bi-isotropic mixtures.
