Abstract
The computation of the transmission and reflection coefficients is an important step in the construction of synthetic seismograms for 2-D or 3-D media, if the modal summation technique is used. These coupling c oefficients for Love waves at a vertical discontinuity are computed an alytically. Numerical tests for realistic structures show how the ener gy carried by an incoming mode is redistributed on the various modes e xisting on both sides of the vertical interface.
