Abstract
A flash photolysis study of 2,4,6-trimethylpyrylium perchlorate (TMP) and 2,4,6-triphenylpyrylium tetrafluoroborate (TPP) was performed in h ydroxylic medium. The transient absorptions observed for TMP and TPP i n methanol with maxima at 365 and 390 nm respectively are due to the f ormation of the intermediate oxoniabenzvalene. We also report the trip let-triplet absorption spectrum of TMP in methanol.
