B. Wehrens et al., URACHAL CARCINOMA AS 2ND PRIMARY NEOPLASM AFTER RADIOTHERAPY OF ENDOMETRIAL CARCINOMA, Tumordiagnostik & Therapie, 17(1), 1996, pp. 22-24
A case of urachal carcinoma diagnosed as second primary after successf
ul treatment of endometrial carcinoma is reported. This urachal carcin
oma occurred within a previous radiation field after a latency of only
18 months. Due to the short latency period the occurrence of the urac
hal carcinoma was rather coincidential than correlated with the prior
radiotherapy. Neither surgery nor chemotherapy including adriamycin an
d paclitaxel could control tumor growth. The patient died 14 months af
ter diagnosis. Histological examination revealed that the tumor tissue
expressed CEA, but serum levels of CEA were not elevated. Estrogen an
d progesterone receptors were found to be negative. During tumor progr
ession serum levels of CA 125 became elevated.
