A dynamic model describing the transfer of mass, momentum, and energy
for a continuous digester improves the understanding of the process an
d the complex interactions between the vertical motion of the mass and
the chemical reactions. The model can potentially predict kappa numbe
r, the compaction of chips, and the chip level. It might therefore hav
e use in predictive simulation to aid process operators. Simulating op
erating conditions of an industrial continuous digester have verified
the model.
