UNBIASED ESTIMATES OF CLASS PROPORTIONS FROM THEMATIC MAPS

A statistical overview is presented for estimating various components related to map accuracy assessment. The emphasis is on estimation of t he true proportions of each map class under several common sampling de signs. A complete system is presented for relating alternative approac hes and estimators using standard rules of probability theory. Covaria nce matrices for estimates of true class proportions are derived in th e Appendices for each of the sampling designs discussed.
