Galvanizing concrete embedded steel reinforcements is one of the metho
ds for avoiding their corrosion. However, whether they can guarantee p
redicted service lives for structures exposed to highly chloride conta
ining media remains controversial. This paper analyses the protective
efficiency of galvanized steel embedded in concrete specimens of varia
ble cement/water/sand ratios immersed in sea water. The results are co
mpared with those obtained for bare steel under the same conditions. T
he influence of concrete porosity on the corrosion rate is discussed.
