Mp. Taylor et J. Herzfeld, LIQUID-CRYSTAL PHASES OF SELF-ASSEMBLED MOLECULAR AGGREGATES, Journal of physics. Condensed matter, 5(17), 1993, pp. 2651-2678
A variety of molecules reversibly self-assemble in solution, forming n
on-covalently bonded molecular aggregates. In many cases these aggrega
tes are asymmetric in shape and are observed to form liquid-crystal ph
ases. The nature of and mechanisms for liquid-crystalline ordering in
such self-assembled systems is the focus of this review.
