To improve the accessibility of [F-18]arylfluorides a method is presen
ted using the decomposition of aromatic diazonium salts in the presenc
e of [F-18]fluoride. Several p-toluidyldiazonium salts have been synth
esized and decomposed in the presence of fluoride. The most useful sal
t, idyldiazonium-2,4,6-tri-isopropylbenzenesulfonate, has been used to
investigate several parameters influencing the fluorination. No-carri
er-added labelling with [F-18]fluoride gave a radiochemical yield of 3
9% [F-18]p-fluorotoluene in a total synthesis time of 78 minutes.
