E. Ergma et al., THE POSSIBLE EVOLUTIONARY SCENARIOS FOR THE ECLIPSING BINARY-SYSTEM PSR-1718-19, Astronomy and astrophysics, 307(3), 1996, pp. 768-774
Some possible models for the eclipsing binary system PSR 1718-19 have
been reviewed. The evolutionary picture based on Zwitter (1993) stripp
ed main-sequence (M-S) turnoff star model is explicitly calculated and
discussed. Both the accretion induced collapse (AIC) scenario with th
e young neutron star and the capture scenario with the old neutron sta
r are discussed. Also the evolutionary scenario with the destructive t
idal heating of the PSR 1718-19 is discussed, (Verbunt 1994). It is sh
own that the AIC condition may be favourable in the stripped M-S turn-
off scenario since then it is possible to avoid a nova explosion with
violent mass loss.
