I. Bramsen et al., A DUTCH ADAPTATION OF THE WAYS OF COPING QUESTIONNAIRE - FACTOR STRUCTURE AND PSYCHOMETRIC PROPERTIES, Anxiety, stress, and coping, 8(4), 1995, pp. 337-352
The aim of the study was to develop a reliable and valid Dutch adaptat
ion of the Ways of Coping Questionnaire (WCQ; Folkman & Lazarus, 1988)
that measures situation-specific coping. The WCQ was translated into
Dutch and was completed by 315 subjects. We found no confirmation for
the eight factors found by Folkman and Lazarus. In an exploratory fact
or analysis, seven factors were found and named Problem Solving, Wishf
ul Thinking, Seeking Social Support, Positive Reappraisal, Accepting R
esponsibility, Avoidance, and Confrontive Coping. On the basis of thes
e Factors and a reliability analysis, six scales were constructed. Fiv
e scales had many items in common with the corresponding original scal
es. For the original scales Self Controlling and Confrontive Coping no
Dutch counterparts were found. With regard to internal consistency, t
est-retest reliability and concurrent validity, the scales showed good
results.
