New observations of near IR emission and absorption lines along M 82's
major axis yield radial velocity-position curves that differ markedly
from those derived from lines at visible wavelengths. For the central
disk we find identical rotation for the -as and the stars, contrary t
o earlier results. The rotation derived from emission and absorption l
ines at visible wavelengths refer to outer regions of the galaxy since
at these wavelengths the central disk is obscured by dust.
