Abstract
The influence of the bearing oil film on the strip thickness was deter mined by measurement of the roll force and roll velocity. The bearing oil film in the featured rolling mill can be as much as 170 mu m, depe nding on the roll force and roll velocity. It is possible to describe the bearing oil film by means of Reynold's model. The coefficient of d etermination is 0.99. In the model, the influence of the bearing oil f ilm on the roll gap is simulated as a function of the quotient of roll velocity/roll force. Statistical studies of the final thickness and t hickness monitor on some 200 strips have shown that the bearing oil fi lm is described with good accuracy by Reynold's model for practical ro lling purposes.
