SPECTROSCOPY OF COMET P SCHAUMASSE

Column density profiles for CN, C-3, C-2 and NH have been determined f rom a long-slit CCD spectrum of periodic comet P/Schaumasse (1992x). C omparisons of these profiles with Haser models indicate that the ratio s of the CN, C-3 and C-2 production rates are typical for a short-peri od comet. Although the scale lengths for NH and its parent species are uncertain, the results indicate that the production rate for NH is mu ch greater than for either C-2 or CN.
