Abstract
The instability of superfluorescent decay is investigated for the case in which the sample length is greater than or comparable to the reson ant wavelength. This instability can inhibit emission in the direction of the pump pulse and even cause the forward emission to be switched off. (C) 1996 American Institute of Physics.
