In this paper a recursive method is developed to obtain the steady sta
te probability distribution of the number of down machines at arbitrar
y time epoch of a machine interference problem with spares. Various sy
stem performance measures, such as average number of down machines, av
erage waiting time for repair, average number of spare machines, avera
ge number of operating machines, machine availability and operator uti
lization, etc., have been obtained for a variety of repair time distri
butions.
