Abstract
A new homologous series of superconducting cuprates containing a mercu ry-based bilayer has been synthesized using a high-pressure, high-temp erature technique. It is found that Tl doping stabilizes a bilayer blo ck with the rock-salt structure i.e. (Hg1-xTlx)(2)-O-2. (Hg1-xTlx)(2)B a2Ca2Cu3Oy and (Hg1-xTlx)(2)Ba2Ca3Cu4Oy as-prepared samples with anali zed Tl contents of approximately 0.4 exhibited bulk superconductivity below 45 K and 114 K, respectively.
