Y. Ilan et al., ESOPHAGEAL MALIGNANCY AFTER LIVER-TRANSPLANTATION IN A PATIENT WITH BARRETTS-ESOPHAGUS, Scandinavian journal of gastroenterology, 31(4), 1996, pp. 415-416
Patients undergoing liver transplantation are predisposed to develop e
xtrahepatic malignancies. It is also known that patients with predispo
sed conditions, such as Barrett's esophagus, have higher rates of esop
hageal carcinoma. We present here a patient who underwent liver transp
lantation, had Barrett's esophagus, and developed esophageal malignanc
y a short time after transplantation. Liver transplantation may be ass
ociated with acceleration of the precancerous condition and the develo
pment of malignancies.
