Y. Ota et al., PREPARATION CONDITIONS FOR ARAGONITE WHIS KERS BY CARBONATION PROCESS, Nippon Seramikkusu Kyokai gakujutsu ronbunshi, 104(3), 1996, pp. 196-200
Calcium carbonate whiskers (aragonite phase) are prepared by blowing C
O2 gas into the suspension consisting of Ca(OH)(2)-added MgCl2 aqueous
solution. The shape and crystalline phase of CaCO3 depend on the prep
aration conditions. The optimum conditions for preparing the aragonite
whiskers were determined. The whiskers have high aspect ratios rangin
g from 20 to 40 with diameters of 0.5-2 mu m. A simple method for prep
aring aragonite whiskers by applying a carbonation process using MgCl2
aqueous solution was developed.
