EXPRESSION OF INDUCIBLE NITRIC-OXIDE SYNT HASE (INOS) IN INFLAMMATORYBOWEL-DISEASE (IBD)

We examined the expression of inducible NO-Synthase in 10 bowel spezim en of Crohn's disease and 10 specimen of ulcerative colitis. The speci men were classified depending on their degree of inflammation. After i solation of the iNOS-mRNA the expression of the iNOS was examined by a reverse-transcription-PCR. There was no expression of iNOS in Crohn's disease. In ulcerative colitis we found an expression of iNOS for a m oderate und higher degree of inflammation. This contributes to a patho genetic role of nitric oxide in ulcerative colitis. If these results c an be confirmed by further examinations iNOS could become a diagnostic criteria for the further differentiation in ulcerative colitis.
