The International Consensus Committee on be nign prostatic hyperplasia has issued recommendations about the evalua tion and management of this disorder, Pharmacotherapy, where appropria te, relies on alpha-blocking agents, 5 alpha-reductase inhibitors, and phytotherapy, The conventional surgical procedures are transurethral resection of the prostate and transvesical adenomectomy. Local applica tion of heat and laser therapy are being evaluated.
